Brief History of the Mighty Bulls
Pooraka began life as the Abattoirs Football Club, the original clubrooms and oval were located on grazing land west of Main North Road. Time has since seen this and the surrounding farmland develop into the suburbs of Pooraka, Montague Farm and more recently Mawson Lakes.
In 1968 the club moved to its current location, purchasing a block of land adjacent to the then cow paddock now known as Lindblom Park, home of the “Mighty Bulls”. The change of name to Pooraka Football Club soon followed.
When the SAFA was formed in 1978, Pooraka became an inaugural member and soon became one of the strongest metropolitan football clubs in both senior and junior football.
It completely dominated the SAFA in the latter years of that association, winning six Division 1 Premierships between ’84 and ’94 as well as many successes in junior football.
Pooraka was the envy of other clubs as a result of its success in junior development, where a number of juniors went on to play VFL/AFL football while many others played in the senior premiership teams mentioned above.
When SAFA folded in 1996, the club joined the SAAFL and like many grass roots clubs has since found it tough going with limited success since the inception of the AFL and competition from other sports and recreations that are available today.

| 1915 | 6/7/1915 | First established as The Abattoirs Football Club with the original clubrooms located west of Main North Road The club competed in the Port Adelaide and Districts Football Association which went into recess from 1916 – 1919 because of World War 1. That Association recommenced in 1920 until disbanded in 1952. It is not clear if (but assumed) The Abattoirs Football Club competed in the association in 1920. |

The community established many of their own community sporting facilities in the area now known as Lindblom Park.
